The Association of Jewish War Veterans said today that some 3,000 Jewish men, women and youth have volunteered their services to more than 100 hospitals and similar institutions for the Christmas period so that staff members can have time off during the holiday.

The volunteers offered their services for whatever jobs they might be asked to do, the Association, which arranged the effort, reported. The Association said “the purpose behind this assistance is a gesture of goodwill on a day recognized as one of goodwill.” Officials of the institutions expressed gratitude for the offer.
