The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneer-son, world leader of the Lubavitcher movement, has established a special scholarship fund to aid girls who wish to pursue Jewish studies in Jewish high schools and teachers seminaries, it was announced here today.

The fund will be known as “Keren Chana,” in honor of the Rebbe’s late mother, Chana Schneerson, who died here three months ago. It will offer assistance in the form of long term loans to girls who would otherwise be unable to attend these schools. The funds will be administered by the Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, the educational arm of the Lubavitcher movement.

In allocating the loans, preference will be given to girls who reside in cities where no Jewish high school or seminary exists, and who must, therefore, attend schools away from home. Preference will also be granted to girls with particularly gifted scholarship ability. “With the scholarship assistance, many girls will be able to devote their full time to their studies without being compelled to find part time occupation to sustain themselves.” the announcement said.
