Premier Levi Eshkol, in a pointed reference to West German delay in ratifying diplomatic relations between West Germany and Israel, said today Israel “expected that Bonn would not indulge in petty dealings” in acting on the matter. He made the comment to a group of visiting West German journalists.
The Premiers office has not concealed its apprehension over the West German delay in ratification of the expected joint announcement of the establishment of relations. It was reported that Dr. Felix Shinar, retiring director of the Israel Mission of Cologne, who arrived in Bonn Monday, may meet with Chancellor Ludwig Erhard and convey Premier Eshkol’s views on the eve of the West German Cabinet meeting tomorrow when the matter is scheduled for consideration.
(From Bonn, it was reported today that West German Foreign Minister Gerhard Schroeder told the Parliamentary group of Chancellor Erhard’s Christian Democratic Union that establishment of diplomatic relations with Israel would take place soon. He said he had used the past few weeks to explain to the Arab countries the West German Middle East policy.)
