A pledge of $8,000,000 for construction of the projected $55,000,000 Mount Sinai School of Medicine here has been announced by the eight children of Mrs. Moses L. Annerberg, widow of multi-millionaire publisher Moses I Annenberg, in honor of the widow’s 86th birthday.
In announcing the gift, in which the eight will share equally, Walter Annenberg, son of the late publisher, said that in deciding on “a distinguished gift” for Mrs. Annenberg, the children had decided that nothing was more important than education “and that the opening of another medical teaching institution is of tremendous importance.”
Edgar M. Bronfman, chairman of the school fund, said that nearly half of the voluntary goal for the hospital had been reached with the $8,000,000 pledge. The medical school will be housed in a 23-story building to be named the Annenberg Building at the center of the hospital’s Manhattan site. The new school is expected to be opened in 1968.
