Sentor Fred R, Harris, Oklanoma Democrat, declared in the Senate today that United States aid to Egypt must be withheld because “they have been receiving whost from us and selling their rice to Communist countries.”
Senator Harris, sponsor of an amendment adopted last week by the Senate to prohibit aid to Egypt on grounds of Egyptian aggressive policies, told the Senate new facts provided stronger arguments for denying aid to Egypt. Describing Egyptian rice shipments to Communist China and Cuba at a time when America provided Egypt with wheat and other surplus commodities, he said “the fact is that rice is easily substituted for wheat.”
National Commander Ralph Plofsky of the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. also urged today that the Administration deny further food aid to Egypt because of Egyptian food sales to Communist China and Cuba.
