More than 100, 000 trees will be planted in Israel’s John F. Kennedy Peace Forest as a result of the banquet honoring Joseph De Silva, executive secretary-treasurer of the Retail Clerks Union Local 770, according to Benjamin Swig, president of the Jewish National Fund Western region, and Milan Roven, Los Angeles JNF Council president.

De Silva was awarded the Kennedy Peace Award by the JNF for 1965 at a dinner sponsored by the JNF. More than 1, 000 leaders of government, labor unions and management attended the affair. Speaker of the evening was Willard Wirtz, U.S. Secretary of Labor and Governor Edmund G. Brown by phone from Sacramento. Both praised Israel’s efforts for peace and progress.
