The principal problem with which world Jewry must deal today is the deprivation by Soviet authorities of the cultural and religious rights of Russian Jewry, Yehuda Hellman, secretary of the World Conference of Jewish Organizations, said here yesterday at a press conference.

Mr. Hellman, who is also executive director of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, also told the correspondents that establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and West Germany had not closed the “historic reckoning” between Jews and the German people, but that it had opened the door between them.

The press conference was arranged by the DAIA, the central representative body of Argentine Jews, and the Buenos Aires Jewish Community. One of the activities in which Mr. Hellman participated was a ceremony marking the 15th anniversary of the death of his father, Jacob Hellman, who served as head of the World Jewish Congress office in Buenos Aires for 11 years. The event was attended by a large number of Jewish communal leaders and friends.
