Israel President Starts Talks Today on Formation of New Cabinet

President Zalman Shazar will request Premier Levi Eshkol next Monday to seek to form a new coalition Government, following the November 2 elections for the new Parliament, it was reported today.

The President will call on the Premier to undertake that task after he consults with the various Knesset factions, as required by law. The President’s consultation will start tomorrow with a meeting with the Mapai-Achdut Avoda alignment faction. He will talk to the other factions in accordance with their size in Parliament.

The new Knesset meanwhile reappointed today the nine standing committees of the Fifth Knesset. The most important are the finance and commerce, foreign affairs and defense committees.
