The 42nd annual convention of the National Committee for Labor Israel will open Thursday at the Hotel Commodore with a series of panel discussions on the role of Histadrut, the Israel labor federation. Twenty five hundred delegates from all parts of the United States and Canada will participate in the four-day conclave which will be addressed by Israeli diplomats and labor leaders.

The National Committee for Labor Israel conducts the annual Israel Histadrut Campaign, which provides funds for a wide range of health, vocational training, cultural and rehabilitation services that benefit two-thirds of the population of Israel. The committee also engages in educational activities in the Western Hemisphere, promotes tourism and youth camps in Israel, and serves as a bridge between the American and Israel labor movements.

Speakers at the convention will be Israel Ambassador Avraham Harman; Pinchas Cruso, honorary president of the Labor Zionist Organization of America; Yehoshua Levy, treasurer of the 920,000-member Histadrut; Akiva Eger, director of the Afro-Asian Institute in Tel Aviv; Dr. Sol Stein, national director of the National Committee for Labor Israel; and Yaakov Zerubavel, a prominent Israeli labor leader and writer.
