The Synagogue Council of America presented its Judaism and World Peace Award here tonight to the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Nobel Peace Prize winning Negro civil rights leader. Dr. King, who was cited for “personal courage, responsible leadership and dedication to Prophetic ideals,” received the award at the SCA annual dinner. Earlier recipients of the award were Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy. The award is a sculpture on a Biblical peace theme.
Also honored at the dinner were three Jewish leaders cited for their dedication to the tenets and traditions of their faith. They are Judge Emil N. Baar, Israel Berman and Samuel Rothstein who received the SCA’s Synagogue Statesman Awards.
