The Foreign Ministry denounced sharply here today the distribution of leaflets voicing anti-Negro sentiments. The Ministry said that the Israel Government is “indignant” over such propaganda.
About 25 such unsigned leaflets had been found by police in Jerusalem and Nathanya in areas where African trainees are undergoing training as part of a broad Israel program to aid underdeveloped nations. Police authorities were trying today to trace the origin and sponsors of the hate literature.
Distribution of the leaflets, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said here today, is “an act of provocation by elements unfriendly to Israel.” The spokesman pointed out that no political party or responsible group in Israel holds such racist views. “Israel believes in full independence and self-determination for all African peoples,” he stressed.
The executive of the Israel Students Association issued a statement after a meeting here today, expressing “abhorrence” over the leaflets. The leaflets were mimeographed on plain, white paper, indicating no source of their origin or sponsorship.
