Seven Jewish youths were held today on charges of burglaries in some 10 synagogues and private homes in Brooklyn. The police, in announcing the arrests, said they had recovered $5,000 worth of typewriters, tape recorders, public address systems and other items.
The suspects were arrested after a 20-year-old student tried to sell a stolen IBM typewriter. The prospective purchaser notified police who determined that the typewriter was one previously reported stolen by a Brooklyn synagogue. The youth was questioned and implicated the other six young men. The alleged accomplices ranged in age from 14 to 20. All will be charged with burglary, police said.
