Jewish Publication Society Elects New President and New Editor

Joseph M. First, a prominent publishing executive and Jewish communal leader, was elected yesterday the new president of the Jewish Publication Society of America. Mr. First, who was the first president and is currently honorary president of the Albert Einstein Medical Center, succeeds Sol Satinsky, who served in the post for the past six years.

Dr. Chaim Potok, associate editor of the JPS for the past six months, was named the new editor. Dr. Potok, an ordained rabbi, author, editor and educator, succeeds Dr. Solomon Grayzel who retired from the JPS editorship after 27 years in the post. Other officers elected today include David C. Melnikoff of Philadelphia, Lee Gusik and Maxwell M. Rabb of New York, Philip D. Sang of Chicago and Jerome J. Shestack of Philadelphia, all vice-presidents; William S. Fishman of Philadelphia, treasurer; Dr. Paul Sloane, secretary; and Lesser Zussman, executive director.
