The first national convention of the Israel Workers Party (Rafi), formed by former Premier David Ben-Gurion in a challenge to the Mapai Party and national leadership of Premier Levi Eshkol, will open here tomorrow night in the presence of an expected 1,200 delegates and 2,000 guests. The conclave will last three days.
During the convention, the delegates will outline in a resolution the dissident party’s conditions for joining the Mapai-dominated Government coalition. These are a strong defense policy geared to the regional status quo; striving for greater productivity and efficiency in the economy; electoral reform; and protection of Israeli living standards. Mr. Ben-Gurion and Shimon Peres, Rafi secretary-general, will address the opening session.
