‘israel Day’ Held at International Exhibition in Moscow

The Soviet Embassy here reported today that Israel has been honored by the Soviet International Modern Agricultural Machinery and Equipment exhibition in Moscow. A “National Day” was designated for Israel at the exhibition on May 19, the report said.

An Israeli pavilion, with some 40 exhibits displayed by 36 Israeli enterprises holds a “prominent place” in the exhibition, the report stated. Israeli participation was favorably noted by Ivan Sinitsin, Minister of Tractor and Agricultural Machinery Industry of the USSR. A total of 700 enterprises from 20 nations, including the United States, are taking part in the exhibition.

Israel Ambassador Katriel Katz, in an address on “Israel Day” at the exhibition, voiced “the hope that the participation of his country in the exhibition would help further develop business and friendly relations between the Soviet Union and Israel.” Mrs. Shulamit Gilead, the Israeli pavilion director, welcomed the audience with the traditional “Shalom,” the Soviet report noted. She described the manufacture of agricultural equipment in Israel, and acquainted the Soviet audience with Israel scientific research and achievements. She voiced hope that “the mutual acquaintance of Soviet and Israeli experts would yield fruitful results.”

The Soviet Embassy here said “The large number of Soviet specialists, who were present at the Israeli National Day ceremonies, displayed keen interest in the Israeli exhibits, which include irrigation and poultry farm equipment, soil cultivation machines, and trailers of different types. The Israeli experts are giving a series of lectures. A lecture by Prof. Yalan of Israel dealt with soil cultivation and mechanization and the development of agricultural areas in Israel. According to the Soviet report “This lecture evoked wide interest among Soviet engineers and scientists.”

The Soviet Embassy report said “Lively discussions in Russian and Yiddish took place on Israel National Day at the Moscow exhibition. Soviet experts and ordinary visitors, among whom were many people of Jewish nationality, exchanged views with the Israeli guests on the problem of agricultural production, and also of the development of friendly ties between the two countries, and likewise of the need of further strengthening these ties.”
