Short-term solutions for Israel’s unemployment were outlined here by Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir at a meeting of the Mapai-Achdut Avodah Alignment Party. He said established factories could open branches in development towns, diamond plants could expand, new houses could be built in settlements and construction programs could be advanced.
The Minister also asserted that Israel could sell an additional $100, 000, 000 worth of products abroad if the products were competitive in price and quality with similar exports from other countries. He said such an increase in export sales would provide jobs for another 100, 000 workers and stressed that the possibility depended on wages in Israel being kept at reasonable levels.
