A $500, 000 gift by Mr. and Mrs. Max M. Fisher to the Sinai Hospital Fund here was announced today by Nate S. Shapero, president of the hospital’s board. Mr. Shapero also announced that the primary purpose of the drive, a proposed $7, 000,000 patient care extension due for completion in 1970, shall bear the Fisher name in recognition of Mr. Fisher’s outstanding leadership and service to communal causes on local, national and overseas levels.
The patient care wing and new surgical pavilion will have close to 150 acute beds, boosting the capacity of Sinai to almost 550. The Fisher donation heads a roster of gifts to the hospital by members of the board of trustees and their families. In all, this group has pledged $1,400, 000 to date to the drive, and it is the hospital’s hope that the community at large will heed the board’s example.
Mr. Fisher is now in his second term as national chairman of the United Jewish Appeal and was elected chairman of the board of the United Foundation two weeks ago. He is chairman of the executive committee of the Jewish Welfare Federation, director of the Metropolitan Detroit Building Fund, vice president of the Hospital Council of Detroit and vice-president of Sinai Hospital. He was chairman of the United Federation Torch Drive five years ago and was the Federation’s Butzel Award recipient for his efforts two years ago.
