The City Council of Wilmington adopted a resolution urging local businessmen to refrain from participation in any action aiding the Arab boycott against Israel. Making public the resolution, City Clerk Paul E. Shockley and City Solicitor Francis Biondi announced that it is being forwarded to the Jewish Federation of Delaware “as evidence of the sentiments” of the municipal legislative body.
The measure takes formal cognizance of the recently adopted Congressional amendment opposing restrictive trade practices against countries friendly to the United States. It notes that, whereas “the State of Israel is one of the staunchest and firmest friends of the United States, the Arab states are committed to a policy of boycotting all commercial and industrial businesses that do business with the State of Israel.” It calls on citizens of Wilmington to refrain from aiding the anti-Israel boycott in any manner, “in keeping with the policies and traditions of our business community.”
