The Association of Jewish Communities of Austria appealed strongly yesterday to the Government, and particularly to the Justice Ministry, to take energetic steps against “rising anti-Semitism” in Austria.
The appeal was embodied in a resolution which noted that several trials in Austria of Nazi war criminals charged with mass murders of Jews during the war have ended with acquittals or “insignificant sentences.” The association said it was not enough for high Austrian officials to speak out against anti-Semitism and neo-Nazism. It said deeds, not words, were needed.
