Prime Minister Levi Eshkol paid tribute today to Israel’s border police for their “vigilance” that enabled Israeli settlers along the nation’s borders to sleep and work.

Mr. Eshkol praised the Israeli border units during a tour of various frontier posts and stations. The tour was to have been part of the celebration of “Border Police Day,” which was canceled after four border policemen were killed early last Sunday morning at Shaar Hagolan in northern Israel by a mine planted by Syrian El Fatah infiltrators. During his tour of the border units, Mr. Eshkol was accompanied by Police Minister Behor Shitreet.
