The secretariat of Prime Minister Levi Eshkol’s Mapai Party adopted a resolution last night, declaring null and void the decision that ousted former Defense Minister Pinhas Lavon from the Histadrut in 1961.
David Ben-Gurion, as Premier, had pushed Mr. Lavon out of his post as secretary general of the Histadrut, the Israel labor federation. Mr. Lavon began a fight to exonerate himself from charges of being responsible, as Defense Minister, for a 1954 “security mishap.” The struggle led Mr. Ben-Gurion to split with his former Mapai comrades, to denounce Premier Eshkol, and to form a dissident party (Rafi) which unsuccessfully challenged Mr. Eshkol’s leadership in an election this year.
