A series of books examining Jewish life in the 20th Century will be published by Random House, one of the largest publishing houses in the United States, under the general editorship of Dr. Moshe Davis, head of the Institute of Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, it was announced here by Random House.
Under the general title of the “Contemporary Civilization Series,” the books, four of which had been contracted for, will include Prof. Davis’ own “The Jewish People in Metamorphosis”; “Tradition and Reality, “by Prof. Nathan Rotenstreich, rector of the Hebrew University; a history of the Bricha, the underground organization that directed the postwar rescue of Jews from Eastern and Central Europe, written by Yehuda Bauer; and “Israelis and Jews,” a study of Jewish identity in Israel, by Simon N. Herman.
Also planned are “Jewish Themes in Contemporary World Literature,” by Shulamith Nardi, and books on Jews in the Soviet Union, Asia and Africa. The series, according to Random House, will appear in 1969.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
