The establishment of an American Council for the Advancement of the Hebrew Language and Culture was proposed here last night at a special session of the jubilee convention of the Histadruth Ivrith of America. The purpose of the new group would be to bring together national Jewish organizations for the purpose of “giving Hebrew a place of priority in the cultural life of American Jews.”
Dr. Mordecai M. Kaplan, leader of the Reconstructionist movement, in an address at the convention, stressed that “in appealing for the cultivation of Hebrew vernacular and culture, we should address ourselves to the need for the Jew to be happy in his being a Jew.”
