A monument to 70,000 Jewish victims of Nazi murders will be erected on the site of the mass killings in Lithuania, it was reported here today from Kovno, the former Lithuanian capital.
A model of the prize-winning monument design by two sculptors — T. Mozuris and A. Lamauskas — which was shown on Lithuanian television, comprises two outstretched hands trying to reach a swarm of birds. The sculptors explained that it was their idea to depict the agony of the victims asking for help in vain, with the birds bearing the message to the world.
