Representatives of the official Soviet travel agency in Israel indicated today that Israelis may pay in local currency for visits of their relatives from the Soviet Union.
The announcement paralleled reports that Israel does not plan to take any action for the time being to clarify Soviet Premier Kosygin’s recent statement that Soviet Jews would be allowed to visit relatives in Israel or even emigrate. The Premier made the statement in reply to a question at a press conference December 3 in Paris during an official visit to France.
The Israel Government is waiting to see whether the Soviets really mean to remove existing barriers to visits or immigration by Soviet Jews, it was indicated.
