Jewish community leaders from a 12-state area will attend a three-day United Jewish Appeal regional conference at the American Motor Hotel in Atlanta on January 20-22, it was announced here today. The conference will set plans to mobilize maximum support of the UJA’s 1967 campaign in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Southern Kansas.
Principal speakers will include Edward Ginsberg of Cleveland, UJA associate general chairman; Rabbi Herbert A, Friedman of New York, UJA executive vice-chairman; and Drew Pearson, columnist and author. Sidney Feldman of Atlanta is serving as conference chairman, with UJA National Cabinet members Philip Belz of Memphis and James L. Permutt of Birmingham serving as co-chairmen.
Major speakers at the three-day sessions will include also Shimshon Arad, Israel’s Ambassador to Mexico; Professor David Steine of Nashville, a member of the UJA National Cabinet; Mrs. Harry L. Jones of Detroit, chairman of the UJA National Women’s Division; Herbert L. Garon of New Orleans, associate chairman of the UJA National Young Leadership Cabinet; Bernard Schaenen of Dallas, a conference vice-chairman; Gottlieb Hammer of New York, executive vice-chairman of the United Israel Appeal; and Samuel L. Haber of New York, assistant executive vice-chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee.
