Efforts to pass a so-called “humane slaughter” bill in the Missouri State Senate affecting Shechita — similar to a draft killed in committee last year by the State House of Representatives — are being fought here by the Orthodox Jewish leaders, including rabbis from Missouri’s two largest cities, St. Louis and Kansas City, who came here to oppose the bill.
After testifying against the draft bill before the Senate Agricultural Committee, all participated in a kosher luncheon served to the senators and other state officials, at which Governor Warren E. Hearnes was the guest of honor.
