Public School Carrying Name of Prominent Jew is Dedicated in Brazil

At impressive ceremonies attended by Gunaebara State and city officials, a public school was dedicated here under the name of David Jose Perez, a Jew who is one of the most renowned educators in Brazil The Gunaebara Secretary of Education, Prof. Benjamin de Morals, represented the state.

Prof. Perez, who is 84, was born in this city, the son of a Sephardic family, and is on the faculty of the University of Brazil. For years he had been the editor of the first Yiddish newspaper in Brazil, A Coluna, which he founded. Very active in Jewish cultural, religious and Zionist life. Prof. Perez is one of Brazil’s foremost experts in law, political science and Spanish and Hispano-American literature.
