Written objection to the appearance of George Rockwell, leader of the American Nazi Party, on the campuses of the University of California was addressed to the California Board of Regents by Herbert F. Rosoff, Commander, Department of California Jewish War Veterans, Rockwell addressed an overflow crowd of students at the Santa Barbara campus, necessitating the use of loudspeakers on the campus. He received a fee of $350 from the San Miguel Club which charged 50 cents admission to the “show.”
“The position of the JWV,” stated Rosoff, “is that Rockwell has no ‘constitutional rights’ to befoul the campus with his dangerous, hateful provocations, Rockwell can hire his own halls, speak to his own followers and others who might be morbidly attracted. He offers provocations to violence and breaches of law and order.”
