Israeli officials reported today that the Affuleh-Meggido road was mined last night in three places and that two of the mines exploded but that the third was found and defused by security units. The mines apparently were intended to blow up a bridge on the road but did not.
Footprints of one man leading to the Jordanian border nearby were found near the site of the first blast as were pamphlets of El Assifa, an Arab guerrilla group.
An Israeli Army spokesman denied today an Egyptian report that a clash took place last night near the Gaza Strip between elements of the "Palestine Liberation Army" and Israeli patrols.
