President Johnson announced today creation of a special top-level United States Government committee “to help build a new peace” in the Mideast after hostilities cease. The President told the National Security Council he had asked McGeorge Bundy, former special assistant for national security affairs, to take a temporary leave of absence from his post as president of the Ford Foundation to head the special committee.
