Two Trials of Nazi Commanders Who Killed Jews Started in Germany

Helmut Reinhard, 56, former Gestapo leader in Norway, went on trial in Baden Eaden today on charges of complicity in the murders of 550 Norwegian Jews who were sent to the Auschwitz death camp. He was also accused of complicity in the killing of four resistance fighters in occupied Norway.

Rudolph Scherer, a commander of one of Hitler’s commando squads on the Eastern front, went on trial today in Rottweiler. The commando units had the assignment of following in the rear of the German armies to wipe out all Jews and opposition behind the lines.
