Seven thousand Arabs have been given permanent employment in the West Bank area of former Jordan, now occupied by Israel, it was reported today by Israel’s military government in that region. Of the total, 4,000 are teachers. The others are employed in various Government agencies as day laborers.

The wage scales for employes hired on a monthly basis have been fixed at the same rates paid by the Jordanian Government. However, to ensure a decent standard of living, the minimum salaries have been raised from eight Jordanian dinars a month to 15 dinars a month. The dinar, pegged to the British pound sterling, is valued at $2.80.
