The Rabbinal Association of Greater Kansas City joined forces today with seven other religious denominations here to launch a local Project Equality, an inter-religious effort to utilize the purchasing power of religious institutions to broaden equality of job opportunity. Rabbi William B. Silverman of Temple B’nai Jehudah is representing the rabbinal group in the new organization.

Under the Project Equality program, participating churches, synagogues and related institutions agree to take affirmative action to end any discriminatory practices found in their own hiring practices, and they require similar action on the part of their suppliers of goods and services. Future contract awards for these goods and services will be based on the merit employment practices of suppliers, as well as on the usual requirements of price, quality and service.
