The Jewish Community Council of Rochester called today for the defeat of the proposed New York State Constitution because it “removes the prohibition of the expenditure of public state funds for denominational schools.” The Council declared that “this fundamental flaw would drive a wedge into the wall of separation of church and state and would do grave injury to the public school system.” It stressed that “from ancient days, the Jewish community has acted on the principle that religious groups should provide for the religious education of their children.”
