The Boston chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality has issued a statement reiterating “in the strongest terms our intense opposition to any conduct, statement or attitudes that would in any manner be derogatory to any race or religion or people.”
John Young, chairman of the chapter, sent the statement to the Jewish Advocate of Boston “in response to the many telephone calls and letters we have received regarding CORE’s policy on anti-Semitism.” The statement cited the formal position of the national CORE board of directors of “allout opposition to anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic and anti-black attitudes and expressions.”
The chapter statement added that CORE would “continue to use all resources to project its commitment to the equality of all mankind,” and declared that “there is no room in CORE for persons with anti-Semitic sentiments.”
