The Cabinet has approved in principle the creation of an authority of higher education. It authorized Education Minister Zalman Aranne to draw up a bill under which the authority will be charged with the preservation of academic freedom and planning for the development of existing institutions of higher learning. The new authority would replace the present higher education council.
