Israeli security forces clamped a curfew on part of the West Bank town of Nablus today as patrols conducted a house-to-house search to flush out El Fatah terrorists and their arsenal. The curfew applied only to the casbah, the maze of narrow winding streets and dark alleys that characterize the native quarters of every Arab town from Casablanca to Baghdad.

The nature of the casbah makes it a natural hiding place for terrorists and fugitives of all kinds. As a search went on, Israeli patrols with loudspeakers ordered all male residents to the central plaza of Nablus for an identification check.
