The annual dinner of the Jewish Welfare Board of Britain was held at St. James Palace last night by permission of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who, in an address to the gathering, declared that “the facilities offered you in this palace are a tribute to the contributions of the Jewish community to this country in peace and war.”
The dinner, attended by prominent leaders of British Jewry, was told by the JWB chairman, Ronald Franklin, of the needs of the Jewish aged in Britain. He said that for obvious reasons, Jewish aged were happier in wholly Jewish surroundings and in order to ensure their continued care such surroundings, more homes and apartments for the aged were urgently needed. Prince Philip said in his address, “I am proud that this historic gathering in St. James has taken place in my time.”
