Dr. Ivo Samkalden, burgomaster of this city, has asked the City Council to name a new square in the former ghetto district after the late Anne Frank in memory of all Netherlands Jews who were deported and murdered by the Nazis during World War II. He also proposed the naming of a new street after the late Dr. L.E. Visser, the anti-Nazi president of the Netherlands High Court, who was removed from office by the Germans in 1941.
