A former concentration camp inmate who stabbed Communist Knesset-member Meir Wilner in a Tel Aviv street last October was sentenced yesterday to 18 months’ imprisonment. The three-judge panel of the Tel Aviv District Court which heard the case, reduced the charges against Avraham Ben-Moshe from attempted murder to attempt to cause grave bodily harm.

Ben-Moshe assaulted Wilner outside the latter’s home, shouting “this is for your behavior toward Jews.” The court said it understood Ben Moshe’s motivations inasmuch as he had spent many years in Russia after his release from Nazi camps while Wilner was a defender of Russian policies in the Knesset. Nevertheless, the court ruled, the assailant was fully aware of his act and of its possible results.
