Life imprisonment at hard labor was demanded for two former Nazi judges by the State Prosecutor at a war crimes trial here today. The defendants are Heinz Hugo Hoffman and Karl Joseph Ferber who, in 1942, sentenced a Jew, Leo Katzenberger, to death for alleged race defilement — having relations with a non-Jewish German woman. They admitted, during their trial, that they had decided to condemn Katzenberger to death before his hearing opened in 1942. One of the defendants argued in court here that there was nothing wrong with this because of the “final solution” of the Jewish problem that had already been decreed by the Nazi government.
