Former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion said in an interview published here that Israel must have “five million Jews before the end of this century, not for security reasons but in order to build the civilization we want.” According to the interview, published in the weekly L’Express, Ben-Gurion said, “I think that the Jews can develop a civilization which will bring new principles to humanity.”
