Brandeis University announced today that it has established a permanent 20-member advisory committee to formulate long-range plans to improve the position of black students on campus. The committee, to be known as the University Advisory Committee on Afro-American Affairs, will be composed of seven black students, three white students, five faculty members and five key administrators. Brandeis has 47 Negro students. Commenting on the new committee, President Abram Sachar observed that “members of the joint committee feel there is a great need for planning and implementing realistic programs which will get to the core of the problems confronting black students and staff.” He said the university will conduct a tutorial program this summer for the substantial number of “high-risk” Negro students who have been accepted for September.
