The Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Yitzhak Nissim, declared before an audience of over 1,000 Orthodox Jews last night that no one, the Israeli Government included, had the right to return an inch of territory captured in the Six-Day War because that land belonged to each and every Jew the world over and it would be contrary to religious law to give away something that belonged to another Jew.
Speaking at the annual dinner of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations, the Chief Rabbi said that he is requesting American yeshivas not to ordain any rabbinical student until he has spent some time studying in Israel. He urged Orthodox Jews to emigrate to Israel, explaining that the dwelling of a Jew in Israel is a primary commandment. Chief Rabbi Nissim, who is called “Rishon Le-Zion,” or the first in Zion, spoke in Hebrew. His talk was later translated.
