The American Council for Judaism, the anti-Zionist organization which had originally invited Rabbi Yehuda Leib Levin of Moscow and Cantor David Stiskin of Leningrad to the United States and sponsored the initial part of their visit, has made public a letter from Rabbi Levin expressing his “sincere thanks” for “making it possible for me to have a wonderful dialogue with the large Jewish community of America.”
Rabbi Levin wrote that for himself and for Cantor Stiskin, it was “an inspiring and stimulating experience” and expressed the hope that “Almighty God make it possible to visit you a second time and have the opportunity again to embrace American Jews.” Rabbi Levin wrote further that he would report to his congregants what he had seen of American Jewish life. “I assure you, my dear and generous hosts that my report will bring forth what is uppermost in my heart: the hope that the spiritual bond which united our two communities will grow stronger, that the future will usher in an era of peace, honor and friendship for our two great peoples and countries.”
