The DAIA, central representative body of Argentine Jewry, opened its three-day national convention at Mar Del Plata yesterday, an occasion that coincided with Argentina’s Independence Day. The convention was attended by 140 delegates from Buenos Aires and 104 from the provinces. Present also for the opening banquet was Francisco A. Imaz, governor-general of Buenos Aires Province, his finance minister, Dagnino Pastore, and other high officials. Israeli Ambassador Moshe Allon brought greetings “from eternal Jerusalem.”

Dr. Isaac Goldenberg, president of the DAIA, said in his address that Jews endow Argentina with their Jewish singularity. Gov. Imaz said, in reply, that Argentina “receives with affection all who come to be part of us, to share our sorrows and our hopes.”
