Paul O’Dwyer, the Democratic candidate for United States Senator from New York, charged on a TV interview yesterday that the anti-Semitism of Southern legislators was the “overriding reason for the Senate filibuster” against the appointment of Abe Fortas to be Chief Justice of the United States. Speaking on NBC-TV’s “Page One” program. Mr. O’Dwyer said that Mr. Fortas’ withdrawal last week was precipitated by the Southern block which has always held “that Jewish morals were inferior.”
