The Jewish community of Houston, has urged President Richard M. Nixon to live up to his election campaign pledges to maintain Israel’s military strength at a level sufficient to deter aggression and to forestall any attempts by the Soviet Union to impose a Middle East solution that would be injurious to Israel. The appeal was contained in a series of resolutions adopted at an inter-faith public rally held at Temple Beth Israel which was addressed by Rabbi Arthur Lelyveld, president of the American Jewish Congress. He declared that Middle East peace could be achieved only through face-to-face negotiations between Israel and her Arab neighbors.
