Ida Kaminska, the former “first lady” of the Yiddish theater in Poland, will open on Broadway May 6 in a revival of the Yiddish classic,”Mirele Efros” by Jacob Gordin. The play has been, booked for a three-week ran at the Brooks Atkinson Theater. It played in New York last year. Another Jewish play, “The Megilla of Itzik Manger,” will open at the Longacre Theater April 19 for a dozen performances. Mme. Kaminska adapted and directed the version of “Mirele Efros” which will feature her daughter, Ruth Kaminska; her husband, Marian Melman; and Karol Latowicz. The actress was director of the government-sponsored Yiddish State Theater in Warsaw when she left Poland because of the anti-Semitic campaign there.
